Man arrested after car theft and chase in Hamilton Heights

ST. LOUIS, Missouri (First Alert 4) – A man is in police custody following a carjacking and chase in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood of St. Louis Wednesday.

According to police, a man was approached by two suspects, one of whom was armed with a gun, in the 1400 block of Hodimont around 11 p.m. The victim said the man with the gun hit him in the head, after which the two men got into his Nissan Altima and drove away.

At around 2:40 a.m. Thursday, the stolen car was spotted near Dr. Martin Luther King and Union. Officers found the car in the 160 block of Union and initiated a pursuit that extended into St. Louis County and ended in the 2100 block of Edmund.

The suspect driving the car fled and was not arrested. A 22-year-old man who attempted to flee after getting out of the car was arrested.

According to police, three weapons were found inside the stolen car.

The victim of the car theft was taken to hospital in critical condition.
