Get your oversized Allston Christmas bag at these Boston stores

Christmas in Allston – also known as Boston Move-In Day – is just around the corner, and one supermarket chain is helping residents “celebrate” this holiday of savings by offering them a limited-edition oversized shopping bag at two stores.

According to Boston.com, every year around September 1, the streets of Allston are flooded with all the discarded items that college students no longer want when they move out of their summer apartments. True to the motto “one man's trash is another man's treasure,” the discarded items transform the streets into an oasis of free “gifts,” a sort of Christmas, if you will.

Stop & Shop offers oversized bags (21 ¾ x 14 ½ x 13 ¾ inches) that depict sidewalks covered in furniture, grab-and-go household goods and a truck that has been “storrowed,” which is a truck that gets crushed while trying to drive under a bridge that is too low, which Stop & Shop says happens frequently on Storrow Drive.

The limited-edition bags are only available at two Stop & Shop locations, according to the company: the new Allston Yards flagship location at 305 Guest Street and the Mission Hill location at 1620 Tremont Street.

According to Stop & Shop, these bags will be free with purchases of $25 or more from August 28 to September 1, while supplies last.

Additionally, both stores will host an “Allston Christmas” party on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Stop & Shop added. The parties will feature free food samples and festive holiday music. Santa will be in the store to hand out bags and take photos, while Marty, Stop & Shop's robot helper, will be dressed as Santa Claus.
