An inmate caught with meth in a cow pasture on prison grounds has been sentenced to 123 months in prison by the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Christopher Redgate, 39, was convicted of trafficking methamphetamine on June 28 after pleading no contest during a hearing. On Aug. 9, Redgate was sentenced to more than 10 years in prison, which he must serve consecutively to his sentence in Sedgwick County, according to a news release from Leavenworth District Attorney Todd Thompson's office.

According to court documents, Redgate, who was an inmate at the time, was arrested in a cow pasture on the grounds of the Lansing Correctional Facility on April 20, 2022. Redgate had methamphetamine in his possession at the time.

“This case provides insight into one of the challenges law enforcement faces when storing illegal substances outside prison walls,” Thompson said. “My thanks go to the staff at Lansing Correctional for all they do to ensure the safety of staff and inmates at the facility.”
