Two men arrested for involvement in alleged crime spree that left young girl stranded in Ault – Greeley Tribune

Two men are behind bars after police say they committed a series of crimes involving two underage girls, one of whom was attacked and abandoned in Ault on Sunday night before fleeing to Nebraska.

Nebraska state troopers arrested 20-year-old Marquise Spotted Eagle and 23-year-old Davation Taylor in Thedford, Nebraska, on Monday, less than five hours after the pair were investigated in several states.

At about 8:30 a.m. on Monday, an Ault police officer was dispatched to a welfare check north of town on U.S. 85. The officer contacted an underage girl who told the officer she had been left in Ault without her consent by two men from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She said the men also took another underage girl who was still with them at the time.

She said the two men traveled to Colorado in a stolen red Volkswagen Beetle and committed a series of crimes along the way, the press release said.

The girl told police she got into an argument with the men the night before in a parking lot in the 200 block of South U.S. 85 in Ault. During the argument, Spotted Eagle pointed an AR-15 rifle at her and attacked her with it, police said.

A multi-state investigation was launched to find the other girl. Less than five hours later, a Nebraska state trooper spotted the vehicle and stopped the two men near Thedford, Nebraska. The other girl – who had been reported missing in Sioux Falls – was found unharmed, and Spotted Eagle and Taylor were arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm, child endangerment, enticement of a minor to commit crimes, aiding and abetting and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

Police found a rifle on the side of the road and believe one of the men threw it from the vehicle as the officer approached.

On Wednesday morning, Ault police issued an arrest warrant for Spotted Eagle on suspicion of second-degree assault, menacing, child abuse, prohibited use of a weapon and harassment for his alleged crimes in the city.

Ault Police continue to ask anyone who may have seen the red Volkswagen to contact Detective Sgt. Ryan Shippy at 970-356-1212 or [email protected].
