Suspect arrested in connection with shooting at Municipal Wharf No. 2 in Monterey – Monterey Herald

MONTEREY – A Marina man has been arrested in connection with last week’s shooting that occurred near Municipal Wharf #2 in Monterey.

On August 6 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Monterey Police officers responded to a call of shots fired in the area of ​​Municipal Wharf #2. When they arrived at the scene, officers made contact with a victim who reported that someone shot him while he was in his vehicle near the foot of the wharf, according to a news release from Lt. Jake Pinkas of the Monterey Police Department. The victim's vehicle had several bullet holes, but he was not injured.

At the London Bridge Pub, officers found another victim suffering from minor injuries believed to be shrapnel injuries from bullets that struck the building that houses the London Bridge Pub and the Japanese restaurant Sapporo Steak and Sushi.

Detectives from the Monterey Police Department worked on the case and during the course of the investigation gathered information that led to the identification of Roberto Isaac Castro Avila as the possible perpetrator of the firearm.

On August 10, at approximately 10 p.m., the Monterey Peninsula Regional Special Response Unit assisted the Monterey Police Department in serving a high-risk search warrant in the 3000 block of Del Monte Blvd. in Marina.

Detectives from the Monterey Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Castro Avila, and on August 13, Castro Avila turned himself in to the Monterey County Jail.

Castro Avila, 23, of Marina, was booked into the Monterey County Jail on charges of attempted murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and an inhabited structure, and possession of a loaded firearm in public.
