Video shows arrest of suspect in Rachel Morin murder case from Maryland

BALTIMORE – WJZ has obtained video from the night Oklahoma police arrested Victor Martinez Hernandez, the man accused of murdering Rachel Morina mother of five from Maryland.

Martinez Hernandez was arrested in June at a bar in Tulsa, Oklahoma, 10 months after Morin was found murdered off the Ma & Pa Trail in Harford County.

The video shows Martinez Hernandez being led out of the bar, handcuffed and placed in the patrol car.

He was later extradited to Maryland where he is fCharged with intentional and negligent murderRape, sexual crimes and kidnapping.

Investigators said they received a tip that Martinez Hernandez was in the Tulsa area after fleeing Maryland.

Martinez Hernandez is being held in jail without bail and is scheduled to go to trial on October 23.

What the video shows

The officers’ instincts kicked in when the police said on the video They felt that Martinez Hernandez was on his way to a bar with a group of people, and that's where he was found.

He initially denied his actions, but an officer said she recognized it was Hernandez when he smiled.

The video begins late on a Friday night at a Tulsa bar, as police and FBI agents approach Martinez Hernandez as he sits inside the bar.

The officers ordered him to come outside and then asked for his identification.

But Martinez Hernandez told the officer that he did not have any identification and gave a false name.

Moments later, Martinez Hernandez was handcuffed and placed in the patrol car after officers discovered his true identity.

A year has passed

Morin went jogging on the Harford County Trail on August 5, 2023 and was reported missing later that evening.

Her car was at Starting point and her body was found raped and murdered on August 6 About 18 to 21 meters off the path, police officials said.

According to court documents, Martinez Hernandez had been hiding in Maryland for part of the months-long nationwide manhunt.

“Grateful that they didn’t give up”

Police officials say Martinez Hernandez entered the United States illegally after an arrest warrant for murder was issued in his home country of El Salvador.

He was also linked to a burglary at a child's home in Los Angeles, where DNA matched DNA found at Morin's crime scene, police said.

Based on DNA testing and surveillance video of Martinez Hernandez's break-in at the Los Angeles home, he was identified as the prime suspect.

Days after the arrest of Martinez Hernandez, Morin’s mother spoke exclusively with WJZand said she was grateful that police never gave up the search.

“I was just so grateful that they didn't give up, that she wasn't the folder on the desk that I was afraid of,” Patty Morin said.
