Death of baby in Lexington, Massachusetts, remains under investigation – NBC Boston

A young boy died after being found unconscious in a vehicle in a parking lot in Lexington, Massachusetts, and was probably in the car “for an extended period of time,” the Middlesex District Attorney's Office said Thursday.

Police were called to the parking lot of a Massachusetts Avenue daycare center around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday after the child was found unconscious in his mother's car. The boy was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators said it appears the child did not get to daycare on the day of his death and was likely in the car “for an extended period of time.” The chief medical examiner's office will determine the cause and manner of death.

The Ministry of Children and Families released a brief statement on Thursday afternoon.

“The Department of Children and Families has received a report and is currently investigating. It is important to remember, especially during the hot summer months, that cars can become unsafe for children in a matter of minutes.”

Citing federal privacy laws, they declined to provide further details on the specific case.
