Section of Route 1 in Branford closed after serious accident: Police

BRANFORD, Connecticut – Route 1 (East Main St.) in Branford is currently closed after a serious accident, Branford police reported on Facebook shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday evening.

According to the police department's post, a serious accident is currently under investigation in the 300 block of East Main Street. The South Central Traffic Unit is conducting the investigation and was on scene at the time of publication.

“Motorists should expect significant traffic delays in the area and are asked to seek alternative routes,” police said on Facebook.

In a social media post, the police thanked the drivers for their cooperation.
