A man is accused of murder and aggravated assault in a shooting in the Dallas neighborhood of Red Bird in July in which five people were injured, one of whom later died of his injuries.

Dallas police announced Thursday that 28-year-old Dantae Brooks is facing murder charges. Jail records also show he faces six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, as well as one count of illegal possession of a weapon by a felon and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Police responded to a gas station in the 100 block of Laureland Road near the South RL Thornton Freeway at about 4:30 a.m. on July 27. Police found five people injured. They were taken to the hospital, one of whom was in critical condition.

A Dallas police officer was also injured and taken to a hospital where he was treated for a non-life-threatening injury and released, police said, but did not provide further details on the nature of the officer's injuries.
