Police-involved shooting in Bastrop leaves person ‘in serious condition’

BASTROP, Louisiana (KNOE) – A police-involved shooting that occurred in Morehouse Parish is under investigation.

According to the Northeast Louisiana Sheriff's Investigative Unit (NLSIU), on August 15, Morehouse Parish Sheriff's officers were executing a protective arrest warrant in the 8700 block of Grabault Road when they encountered an armed individual on the front lawn of a residence.

In a press release, the NLSIU stated that officers asked the person to drop his weapon; the “situation escalated” when the person “failed to comply.”

Authorities said the person was shot and immediately received medical attention. The person was later flown by helicopter to a regional hospital.

KNOE was informed that the person was “in serious condition.”

A team of investigators from surrounding authorities has taken over the investigation.
