Family remembers child killed in car crash in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (WSFA) – A Montgomery family is devastated after the death of a child.

A'Miya Adair, 10, was killed in a traffic accident on Interstate 85 in Montgomery County on Saturday.

“This is my baby,” said Roderica Reese, A'Miya's mother. “I never thought something like this would happen.”

Before the accident, Reese said, she, A'Miya, her father and her siblings had spent the day with family, not knowing it would be their last happy memory.

“I feel like a third of the stars fell from the sky when my baby left this earth,” said Craig Hayes, A'Miya's father.

Reese describes her daughter as a “spirited” child who never met strangers.

A'Miya entered fourth grade at Chisholm Elementary School two days before her death and dreamed of becoming a doctor, singer and ballerina.

The family has expressed a need for help in arranging A'Miya's funeral, which will be handled by Burton's Funeral Home in Tuskegee.
