Spokane woman arrested for burglary and illegal possession of weapons | Spokane News

SPOKANE, Wash. – A woman was arrested in northeast Spokane today after allegedly attempting to break into a home.

According to Spokane police, officers responded to a home in the 600 block of West Spofford Avenue shortly before noon today, August 15, after a 911 caller reported a woman forcibly entering the home. The caller said the woman threw a brick through a window to gain entry.

The caller also told police that this woman had previously broken into the same home. When officers arrived, they found a broken window and discovered that several doors inside were barricaded. The investigation revealed the woman's identity and a court order prohibiting her from entering the home.

Shortly before 1 p.m., officers attempted to contact the woman, but she did not respond. For security reasons, the SWAT team, canine units, hostage negotiators and the air support unit were called in. Despite repeated attempts to make contact, the woman refused to surrender. Negotiators tried to call and text her without success.

A search warrant was obtained and when attempts to communicate failed, officers used chemical irritants to force the woman out. The woman eventually surrendered.

Kyza Richardson, 31, was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges including first-degree burglary, first-degree illegal possession of a weapon, failure to comply with a court order and third-degree malicious damage to property. The weapons charge was added after officers found evidence that she had a gun in the home.

According to police, Richardson has a long criminal record. Among other things, he has been convicted of property damage with a weapon and illegal vehicle hijacking.
