District Attorney Hoovler announces guilty plea in Monroe robbery case – The Warwick Valley Dispatch

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that Aguibou Karambe, 22, of Manhattan, pleaded guilty in Orange County Court to attempted second-degree robbery. Pursuant to the plea agreement, which was entered into the record at the time of Karambe's guilty plea, prosecutors will recommend that he be sentenced to five (5) years in prison, followed by three (3) years of post-release probation, at sentencing on October 16, 2024.

According to documents filed and statements made in court, Karambe and three other masked men entered the AT&T store in the village of Monroe on February 28, 2023. Inside the store, one of the men grabbed the clerk by the neck and pushed him into the back room. One of the men said he was armed with a gun and had his hand in his jacket pocket. The men then stole various electronic devices from the store and fled. Law enforcement was able to track the men to the town of Mount Vernon in Westchester County, where they were found with the proceeds of the robbery. At the guilty plea hearing, Karambe admitted to attempting to steal property by force with the assistance of a person who was actually present.

District Attorney Hoovler thanked the Monroe Police Department for their investigation and arrest of the defendant. District Attorney Hoovler also thanked the Town of Mount Vernon Police, the New York Police Department and the Westchester County Police Department for their assistance in arresting the defendant.

“This brazen robbery was as dangerous as it was ill-conceived,” said District Attorney David M. Hoovler. “Fortunately, the police's quick response and diligent investigation ensured that the perpetrators were promptly found and taken into custody. The safety of our communities depends on proactive policing, coupled with my office's commitment to bringing these perpetrators to justice. I commend the smart and cooperative work of the law enforcement agencies involved in this case.”

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Nicholas Mangold.

This charge is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed a criminal violation and is not proof of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial at which it shall be the burden of the State of New York to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
