For safety reasons, residents were unable to save their valuables, medicines or cars after the fire.

A plan is now being implemented that will allow residents to collect some of their belongings.

In an email sent to residents on Thursday, the administration said it was working on a “practical solution to ensure residents can keep their usable belongings safe and secure.”

The letter said the sellers would take photos of the recovered items and pack them into moving boxes. Those boxes would then be scanned with a barcode to match them to a specific apartment and then shipped to a third-party facility.

Residents can then collect their belongings from the storage facility.

In the letter to residents, the administration announced that any remaining salvageable items would be stored free of charge for 30 days.

Management says it may take up to six weeks for the process to be completed for all units. As a result of the fire, all 256 units in the complex were affected by fire, smoke or water damage.

Just a few days ago, some residents filed a lawsuit against the owners and management, claiming that there had been “destruction and confiscation of the building and personal belongings” of the hundreds of residents living there.

The letter ended with a note that residents who wish to collect their personal belongings must notify the property by email by Monday at the latest.
