Investigation into police-involved shooting in St. Francois County underway

An investigation is underway following a police officer-involved shooting in St. Francois County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Drug and Crime Division is leading the investigation at the request of the St. Francois County Sheriff's Office.

According to preliminary findings, the incident occurred on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at approximately 2:19 p.m. A deputy with the St. Francois County Sheriff's Office attempted to initiate a traffic stop near Old Orchard Road. The suspect involved failed to comply, resulting in a chase.

When the pursuit ended, the deputy reported that their patrol car was rammed by the suspect's vehicle. In response, shots were fired, causing the suspect to be struck by gunfire. Officers on scene administered first aid to the suspect until EMS arrived. The suspect was then transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. No other injuries were reported during the incident.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Detectives from the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Drug and Crime Enforcement Division are handling the case. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be submitted to the St. Francois County District Attorney for review.
