Jury selection underway for Valhermoso Springs mass murderer accused

DECATUR, Alabama (WAFF) – Jury selection is currently underway at the Morgan County Courthouse in a case in which prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Frederic Rogers.

Frederic Allen Rogers and John Michael Legg are accused of killing seven people in a home on Talucah Road in Valhermoso Springs in June 2020.

All potential jurors were divided into four separate groups.

They were then questioned about various circumstances and situations to determine whether they were suitable to serve as jurors.

Jurors were asked questions about any implicit biases that might affect their impartiality.

Some questions concerned possible prejudice against the police or Hispanics.

The defense also asked the jury a hypothetical question about whether they could consider aggravating or mitigating circumstances that might result in someone receiving the death penalty after being convicted of a capital crime.

Some potential jurors had difficulty with this question.

Others said they could not bear to have the decision of life and death in their hands.

The selection is still ongoing and will most likely last until Friday, with opening statements scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
