Man accused of murdering priest must appear in court

COVINGTON, Louisiana – The man accused of killing a priest and his assistant is scheduled to appear in court Friday.

The hearing will decide what evidence will be used in the trial against Antonio Tyson.

According to prosecutors, Tyson killed Father Otis Young and his pastoral assistant Ruth Prats in 2022. Investigators found their burned bodies behind a glassblowing shop in downtown Covington.

Tyson is accused of forcibly entering Prat's house and beating, stabbing and burning both bodies.

Last month, a judge granted a request to seal a piece of evidence that Tyson's team said would not ensure a fair trial. At the same hearing, the judge said the trial likely won't begin until next year.
