The Prepare for the Elections video series is designed to help Presbyterians stay informed during the election season

Louisville – The Presbyterian Office of Public Witness has launched an online video series to help members of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and other interested voters prepare for the November general election.

The “Prepare for the Election” series consists of videos that focus on General Assembly policy and other information Presbyterian voters need. The videos, featuring OPW summer fellows, will be posted on PC(USA)’s social media platforms starting this week. (Watch the first video by clicking on the image above.)

“The 'Prepare for the Polls' social media series is designed to remind Presbyterians of the value of civic discipleship, and we hope this series will help all eligible voters stay informed about voter registration,” said Rev. Christina Cosby, OPW's domestic and environmental affairs representative. The series will also help voters “learn about the candidates on the ballot and determine their polling locations for the 2024 U.S. election.”

The series was created by summer fellows Olivia Phelps and Ariyah Sadler in collaboration with OPW staff for this important election season, which includes the presidential race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.

Working on this project “to mobilize voters at such a crucial moment in history has been a wonderful experience,” said Phelps, who appears in the first video.

OPW believes that voting is not only a civic duty but a sacred responsibility, Cosby said.

“As stewards of justice and compassion, we are called to educate ourselves on the many issues affecting our communities and use that knowledge to support basic access to the human needs of vulnerable individuals,” she said. “By being a multi-issue voter as Presbyterians, focusing on issues rather than parties or individuals, we affirm our faith and commitment to love our neighbor by working toward a world that reflects the value of the common good.”

In addition to the multimedia series, OPW recently announced the PC(USA) Election Center, another resource for Presbyterians to collect voter information. (Find it here.)

Last month, PC(USA) Advocacy Director Rev. Jimmie Hawkins and Rev. Denise Anderson, director of Compassion, Peace and Justice Ministries at the Presbyterian Mission Agency, participated in a vigil in anticipation of the upcoming election.

Among other things, Hawkins prayed that God would “open our eyes so that voters will choose those whose hearts are filled with a determination to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with our God.” (You can watch the vigil here).
