Remote island seeks teacher for “easiest job in the world” at small school with only FOUR students – but there’s a catch

A SMALL island is desperately trying to hire a teacher for the “easiest job in the world.”

Bois Blanc Island in Michigan covers just 34 square meters – and the only school there has only four students.

Bois Blanc Pines School, the smallest school district in the Midwest, is notorious for its high staff turnover.

Teachers in the past called hard Weather Conditions and expensive weatherproof accommodation are reasons to give up the seemingly easy job.

But residents who fancy a trip to the mainland city of Cheboygan can take a car ferry to Summer if the weather permits.

Bois Blancs internal transport is also limited, as locals have to endure miles of gravel roads.

There is only one supermarket on the remote island, so locals are forced to stock up on groceries unless they are willing to make the long journey to Cheboygan.

Cindy Riker, the school board's chairwoman, says the island's unique geographic challenges combined with a nationwide teacher shortage make it impossible to recruit new staff.

She told Bridge Michigan, “Our challenge now is not just because of the island, but because of the way teachers are in this world today.”

“Getting an experienced teacher is probably out of the question.”

And fitting the billApplicants must be versatile and be able to do more than just a normal teacher.

Since Bois Blanc Pines School has only one employee, he or she must serve as both counselor and principal.

Amanda Beugly, a school board member, hopes to send her two children to Bois Blanc Pines School, but only if they can find an “experienced teacher” in time.

She told the magazine: “I think it's such a demanding position that you need that experience.”

“In a one-classroom school, there isn’t the same support structure as in a regular school, where there are other teachers you can turn to if you need help.”

According to school records, no more than four students have been enrolled at any one time in the last decade.

Due to the small number of pupils, the school's budget is a whopping £190,000 – approximately £47,000 per pupil.

This means that individual spending per student is almost three times higher than that of students in Detroit, Michigan's largest city.

Other “easy” jobs you can do include quitting your job and becoming a social media influencer.

Millionaire Kat Norton quit her corporate job to pursue a career at TikTok and quickly turned her life around.

And Kat is not alone – Luton man Joseph Holman runs a £2 million annual business after selling toys on eBay 20 years ago.

The 33-year-old lives with his partner Elena in Luton, Bedfordshire – but he gave up his job as a plumber ten years ago to concentrate on his business, which sells used and incorrectly measured doors online.

The savvy entrepreneur told The Sun: “I started selling things on eBay as a kid. I've always had an eye for a bargain.

“I used to make a bit of money selling toys like PlayStation accessories and football coins through my dad's eBay account.

“Most kids went home after school and played games, watched TV or met up with friends. I enjoyed finding a bargain and turning it into a profit.”
