Report: Son of Creedence Clearwater Revival drummer allegedly killed girlfriend in Nevada

The son of Creedence Clearwater Revival drummer Doug Clifford is accused of killing his girlfriend after her body was found on the side of a Nevada highway this week, police and media reports.

Brent Clifford, who was charged with murder after remains believed to be those of 48-year-old Patricia Portella-Wright were found Thursday near Mt. Rose Highway in Washoe County, Nevada, is also a person of interest in connection with a homicide in Reno, according to the Placer County Sheriff's Office.

“Obviously, this is a crime,” Placer County Sergeant David Smith said Thursday of the Portella-Wright case, adding that investigators have “worked tirelessly over the last week to help Patricia's family close the case and find Patricia's body.”

Clifford is one of three children of Doug Clifford, drummer for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band Creedence Clearwater Revival, TMZ reports, citing public records.

The Placer County Sheriff's Office said Portella-Wright, of Kings Beach, California, was last seen on the morning of Sunday, August 4, before she was reported missing last Friday.

“Through our investigation, we received information that led us to the Mt. Rose Highway area. Using a drone, we were able to locate the body of a woman on a steep slope,” the sheriff's office wrote on Facebook on Thursday.

“During our investigation, we identified her boyfriend, Brent Clifford, as a person of interest in connection with her disappearance. On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, Clifford was arrested in Portola [California]. He was booked into the Placer County Jail on murder charges,” the statement said.

The motive for the alleged murder remains unclear.

“According to the Reno Police Department, Clifford is a person of interest in a homicide case in Reno. The male victim of this homicide was discovered on the morning of Sunday, August 11,” the Placer County Sheriff's Office also said. “The red 2003 Chevrolet Blazer belonging to the homicide victim was found in the same area where Clifford was arrested in Portola.”
