Shaquez Nesbitt, 24, was involved in a verbal argument with his partner at their home on Feb. 5, authorities said. He left the house and threatened his partner and their child via text message, prosecutors said. According to the statement, Nesbitt's threats included “raiding her home while she and her child were inside.”

The victim called 911, and Kingston police went to the home, where they questioned Nesbitt and the victim, authorities said. Kingston police found Nesbitt's loaded handgun in a nearby maintenance room, prosecutors said.

Nesbitt pleaded guilty before Judge Bryan Rounds and sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday, November 13. He faces seven and a half years in prison, followed by five years of probation upon release.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kristen Druse, chief of the Gun Violence Unit. Nesbitt is being represented by Joey Drillings of the Ulster County Public Defender's Office.
