Collins teacher recovering after Thursday classroom incident | News

The condition of the Collins Intermediate School employee who was flown by helicopter to a local hospital on Thursday is improving. Candra Rogers, assistant principal, was injured during a classroom disruption.

The investigation is not yet complete.

The incident occurred in a classroom with fewer than 10 students. The student was arrested. The Student Code of Conduct is being applied and charges are pending. Privacy laws prevent the student's name or specific details from being published as a student.

Administrators, support staff and other Corsicana ISD officials will be in Collins on Friday and will remain on campus in the future if needed.

Mrs. Rogers joined CISD as an assistant principal during the second semester of last year. Her husband, Eugene Rogers, is a 1984 graduate of Corsicana High School and is in his first year as CHS head football coach.

“Our prayers are with Mrs. Rogers and her family, but also with the student's family, the people who were in the classroom at the time, and the entire Collins campus, our school district and our community,” said Superintendent Stephanie Howell. “As you can imagine, this has been an extremely upsetting and difficult situation, but we take the safety of not only our students but our staff very seriously. Both remain a priority for Corsicana ISD.”
