“I have learned from my past experiences. I came to fight and try to win.”

Emerson RoyalAC Milan's newest signing, shared these thoughts on the club's official channel, as further reported News from Milan:

About his tattoo “Win or Win”:

“This is a phrase that is very important to me because as a child I lived in a favela and all I ever thought about was winning. I had to win in life to help my family, especially in football. When I play, I always want to win, even if it's just a game with friends. I got this tattoo because it represents who I am.”

About the favelas:

“It means everything to me. Many people think that favelas only have negative aspects, but negative things can be turned into positive ones. That's what happened to me. As a child I had little and where I lived there were always shootings. That made me grow up and I wanted to take my family away. I could play football and I told my mother that I would play football and change her life. People thought that was impossible. There are people who are prejudiced; if you come from a favela they think you can't make it. I always wanted to win. Today I can't stay there much longer; life changes, but when I can I visit the favela and try to help the children and foundations there. It's important for them to have someone like me to help them.”

Who he was thinking of when he signed for Milan:

“I thought about my son and my wife. My son has changed my life and my wife always does everything to be close to me. They are the two people I think about the most. I also have my mother and my brothers, but the most important thing is my wife and my son. I have always dreamed of becoming a father; I love my son very much and wish I could always be with him. There is a bond between us that is difficult to explain. My wife also gives me a lot of love and has given me my son. His name is Claudio and my wife is called Stella.”

On the game between Tottenham and Milan:

“When I entered San Siro I was overwhelmed because it is a beautiful stadium full of fans. Before the match I looked at the fans and hoped that one day I could play for them. Now I am here in Milan and I want to experience that atmosphere again, but this time in the Rossonero shirt. I am here to make a difference.”

His nicknames:

“Royal and Black Panther.”

“I know Leao writes songs and loves to sing. I told him we should compose music together. I fell in love with music as a child and started composing samba pieces. Then I started composing rap tracks and I have a studio at home in London. I will do the same here in Milan.”

To number 22:

“The number 22 belongs to Kaká. Wearing this number is a big responsibility. But I accepted it because I want to make history like Kaká. For us Brazilians, Kaká is a role model and when I found out that he wears the number 22, I didn't think twice and chose it because I want to be as successful as him.”

About the game for Milan:

“For us Brazilians, Milan is like our team, a Brazilian team. That's why I always dreamed of playing here. How could you forget Ronaldinho's magic? I watched a lot of Milan games because I loved Ronaldinho. I know the fans really like Brazilians. The club is very similar to Brazilian clubs, so I have the full trust of the team and the fans that I will do my job well.”

On gratitude:

“What am I grateful for? Everything. Ever since I started playing football, I have been grateful to God. I believe in God and I am grateful for this opportunity. Sometimes in life there are things that make us feel bad; that happened to me last year due to certain circumstances and now I am wearing the most beautiful jersey in the world.”

Emerson Royal commented on the language:

“I don't speak Italian yet, so having people like Fonseca and Leao who speak Portuguese can help me a lot. I need to learn Italian as soon as possible to be able to speak with my teammates. That's how I am; I like to talk, joke, dance and do a lot of things. And to do that well, I need to speak Italian.”

About Series A:

“When I went from Brazil to Spain, I found a slightly different style of football. In Spain, football is technical, while in England it is more physical. Now I come to Italy, where football is more tactical. I believe that the things I learned from my experiences in Brazil, Spain and England can help me succeed here. I know it is a tough league, but I have come to fight and try to win.”
