Fort Worth police officer Billy Randolph killed: New details

FORT WORTH, Texas — A woman accused of driving while drunk and killing a Fort Worth police officer told officers she had consumed about 10 drinks of alcohol before the crash occurred Monday morning, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

In addition, she did not stop after the collision with the police officer and continued driving for another quarter mile, the affidavit states.

DeAujalae Evans, 25, is charged with manslaughter while intoxicated in connection with the death of police sergeant Billy Randolph.

Randolph, a 29-year police veteran, was responding to an early morning crash on Interstate 35W in south Fort Worth when a car drove through the scene and struck him, police said. He was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Evans was arrested at the scene after running to the parking lot of a nearby Motel 6, according to the arrest warrant affidavit obtained by WFAA.

The affidavit states Randolph was standing on a freeway exit ramp when Evans, driving a 2020 Nissan Versa, drove the wrong way on the ramp and struck him.

The impact caused Randolph to be thrown into the air and land on the roadway, the affidavit states.

The affidavit states that Evans “made no attempt to stop” after hitting Randolph and continued driving for about a quarter of a mile. When she stopped, the affidavit states, she ran away, jumped over a wall and drove toward a Motel 6 that was off the highway.

The officers caught up with them and took them into custody.

One of the officers noticed “the odor of an alcoholic beverage” on Evans' breath and saw that her eyes were watering and her speech was slurred, the affidavit states.

Evans told the officer she had consumed an unknown amount of alcohol between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. that morning, the affidavit states. While the results of Evans' blood draw were pending when the affidavit was written, the document said she later told investigators she had consumed about 10 shots the night before the crash.

“She also stated that she was drunk when the accident occurred,” the affidavit states.

Evans remained in custody at the Tarrant County Jail on Friday, with bail set at $750,000, according to online records.

Evans is on probation for a previous incident in which she was convicted of shooting a woman in 2023, records show. She pleaded guilty in that case and was sentenced to six years of probation.
