Man from DeQuincy allegedly shot neighbor

DEQUINCY, Louisiana (KPLC) – An arrest has been made in connection with a shooting at the Lois Street Apartments in DeQuincy last month.

The suspect, the neighbor of the person shot, claimed he was acting in self-defense at the time of the shooting and was released, according to DeQuincy police Major Jerry Bell.

However, after months of investigation, 49-year-old Michael Jerome Green was arrested on August 15 for attempted first-degree murder.

Bell said when DeQuincy officers arrived at the apartments on July 15, they found a “male lying face up in severe pain.” He had been shot in the upper right chest, just below the armpit. A Ruger .380 handgun was recovered at the scene.

He said his neighbor Green shot him, Bell said. Green told police he did it in self-defense. Green was arrested but later released.

After completing the investigation, Judge Tony Fazzio signed an arrest warrant for attempted second-degree murder and set bail at $250,000.
