Golden Retriever who loves making video calls with his grandma makes hearts melt: “Adorable”

A golden retriever's adorable bond with his grandmother is captivating the internet, and he even enjoys FaceTime calls with his favorite human when she's not around.

Dog owner Lacie Lind loved watching the close bond between her dog Oakley and his grandma, but it turns out the two don't even have to be together to show how close they are. When Oakley's grandma can't come over, she even likes to video chat with her granddog and try to cheer him up.

On July 11, Lind shared the cutest clip on TikTok (@lacielind) showing the moment Oakley spoke to his grandma via FaceTime one evening. The sweet video has melted hearts online, generating over 1.4 million views and more than 193,900 likes on TikTok so far.

The caption under the video reads: “Does anyone else have long conversations with their Golden Retriever?”

A 2022 study by researchers at Eötvös Loránd University in Hungary found that dogs can identify their owners by the sound of their voice. The data also showed that dogs can use other acoustic cues to distinguish their owner's voice from unfamiliar ones. This shows that dogs use some of the identification factors that humans use, but not all of them.

The study's data was based on 28 different dogs whose owners hid behind a wall with a stranger. The dog could hear its owner and the stranger's voice, and in most cases the dog was able to find its owner just by detecting the sound of the stranger's voice.

While it's not clear how well a dog understands the concept of a video call, they can definitely pick up on the voice on the other end. The American Kennel Club (AKC) even suggests trying this at home. Owners could record the sound of their own voice and play the recording around the house to see if their pup understands.

There is no doubt that Oakley recognized the sound of his grandmother's voice on the phone, as he even seemed attentive during the conversation. When she told him she would not be seeing him that week, he hung his head sadly. But all was not lost, for as soon as she mentioned their next play date, Oakley immediately cheered up and tilted his head excitedly.

After the clip went viral, many social media users wanted to see Oakley's important date with his grandma and their dog Daisy. Of course, TikToker Lind did not disappoint, as she posted a follow-up video showing how much fun he was having.

Social media users can't get enough of the dog's precious FaceTime call with his grandma, which has so far garnered over 700 comments on the viral post, with one reading: “He totally understands her.”

Another TikTok user wrote: “Oh my god!!!! This is the new generation of grandchildren.”

“Can you smile for grandma? That's beyond sweet,” one person added.

Another comment jokes: “When grandma is around, you can tell he’s especially spoiled.”
