If you're looking for an easy solution to overusing your curling iron, this no-heat curling technique might be worth a try. We've seen a lot of different no-heat curling tools on the market and thought I'd share a few options that do the trick for a little money, too.

Option 1: Satin scarf

If you have a satin scarf lying around in your closet, it makes a great curling iron. I like to use it on freshly washed and air-dried hair.

Prepare hair by lightly spraying Oribe Maximista Thickening Spray onto dry hair.

Roll your scarf lengthwise and secure it with a bobby pin on the top of your head.

Divide the hair into two sections – like braids – and then wrap small sections of hair away from the face and around the scarf like a braid, gradually adding a little more hair. The tighter you wrap the hair, the curlier your hair will be. I prefer a looser wave and start larger sections with a looser wrap.

Secure the ends with a hair tie and repeat this technique on the other side.

I leave my hair in for about 10 minutes. For more bounce, I suggest leaving the hair wrapped overnight.

Option 2: Curlers without heat

Flexible, no-heat curling irons have been around for many years. I've bought some at the dollar store and they're also available on Amazon. I find these are easier to use on damp hair, but work just as well on dry hair.

Prepare hair by spraying Oribe Maximista Thickening Spray into damp hair from roots to ends.

First, section off the front sections that frame the face and about two inches from the roots, begin wrapping them around the rod (away from the face), leaving the ends hanging over. Twist the ends of the rod to secure it in place. This will create a modern bend rather than a tight curl.

Repeat this technique with a total of 4 to 6 bars around the head.

Leave the hair in for 30 minutes until it is completely dry.

Final touches

To complete the look, I used Davines This is a Texture Spray, a hairspray for texture and definition.
