Susan Lorincz trial: Jury finds woman guilty of manslaughter for shooting neighbor through front door in Ocala

Stream the process below:

A jury has found Susan Lorincz guilty of manslaughter with a firearm after she shot mother of four Ajike “AJ” Owens through her front door last June.

The decision was made on Friday after the prosecution and defense made their closing arguments in the week-long trial in Marion County. Deliberations began around noon.

A sentencing hearing will be scheduled at a later date. Until then, she will remain in custody without bail.

Susan Lorincz sits in the courtroom on the third day of her manslaughter trial in the shooting death of Ajike “AJ” Owens on Thursday, August 15, 2024.

Lorincz was arrested on June 2, 2023, for manslaughter with a firearm after fatally shooting Owens following a confrontation.

Owens went to Lorincz's house to talk to her about an argument with her children, and at some point Lorincz reportedly fired a shot through the front door, striking and killing Owens.

Lorincz's defense attorneys insist that she shot Owens in self-defense.

The prosecution argued that while Lorincz may have been frightened when she heard Owens banging on her door, she was never under any real threat and the use of deadly force was not justified.
