Driver arrested after 73-year-old killed in hit-and-run in Tarzana – NBC Los Angeles

A 73-year-old pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Tarzana. A suspect was later arrested at his home in Reseda, authorities said Friday.

The collision was reported at 11:20 p.m. Thursday and Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to 19563 Ventura Blvd., south of the 101 Freeway. When they arrived, witnesses told police that a suspect traveling east on Ventura in a dark-colored sedan struck the man, who was walking outside the crosswalk, and then sped from the scene, an LAPD spokesman told City News Service.

“A gray Honda Civic was traveling eastbound on Ventura Boulevard when it struck a pedestrian crossing Ventura Boulevard east of Corbin Avenue,” the LAPD said in a statement. “The pedestrian was thrown eastbound before colliding with the roadway. The Honda continued eastbound without stopping, identifying itself, or rendering aid as required by law.”

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Los Angeles Fire Department. Information about his identity was not immediately available.

“Further investigation resulted in … detectives and West Valley Patrol officers locating the fleeing driver at his residence,” the LAPD statement said. “He was detained pending further investigation. The fleeing vehicle was found abandoned not far from the accident scene.”

Nathon Jaimes, 18, of Reseda, was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death and was held on $30,000 bail, the LAPD reported.
