Modern Warfare Remaster Mod H2M 'Leaked' After Cease and Desist Order

A Modern Warfare Remastered mod called “H2M” has been “leaked” following a cease and desist letter from Activision.

Activision issued the cease and desist letter yesterday, just hours before the mod's release. On the mod's official Twitter account, the developers stated: “Today, our team members received a cease and desist letter on behalf of Activision Publishing regarding the H2M mod project. We are complying with this request and will cease all activity immediately and permanently.”

However, a few hours after the developers announced that they would comply with the cease-and-desist agreement, the mod files were “leaked” on several Discord servers. At the time of writing, around 800 people were playing the mod, and thousands are said to have downloaded it.

The Call of Duty community has understandably come under fire from Activision after it decided to issue a cease and desist order. After a week of heavy promotion of H2M by its developers, Modern Warfare Remastered became one of the best-selling titles on Steam for days for the first time in nearly eight years. As a result, the community has questioned why Activision issued the cease and desist order just hours before release, given that the mod had been in development for years.

A petition to let the H2M mod “live in peace” had already accumulated over 7,000 petitions at the time of writing.

It's not entirely clear how Activision will handle the mod's online release, but we'll keep our readers updated as we learn more.
