'You murdered my mother': Family confronts man accused of stabbing his mother to death in Brandon

The man accused of stabbing his mother to death faced a lecture from his family members in court on Friday.

John Aylor, 37, was ordered to remain behind bars until his trial.

According to detectives, he stabbed 64-year-old Julie Aylor on Monday while his own daughter and niece were at the home on Silvercrest Ln. in Brandon.

Aylor listened as his lawyer did her best to explain why he should be released from prison before trial, but she told the judge there was no evidence he wasn't the killer.

“There is a substantial likelihood that the defendant committed such a crime at this stage of the proceedings,” the defense attorney said. “I have no information that would challenge the testimony of Det. Gibson here today.”

She stressed that his anger was not directed at the rest of the community. As the judge was about to deliver his verdict, family members of the suspect and the victim began yelling at Aylor for asking the judge to release him from jail while he awaits trial.

“Are you kidding me? Do you know what you did to my mother?” one said. “You murdered my mother.”

Officers regained control when the victim's daughter, who had stated in previous interviews that she supported the death penalty for her brother, screamed “death by knife.”

The judge agreed with the prosecution that Aylor was too dangerous to release.

“There are no release conditions that protect the community,” said Judge Samantha Ward.

The verdict ends an emotional week for the family that began on Monday with the death of Julie Aylor, on Tuesday with the arrest of John Aylor and on Wednesday with a vigil for Julie.

“My mother was a good mother,” Kristina Blair said Wednesday. “She was brutally attacked by her own son, the person she loved. I can only imagine what was going on in her head.”

The sheriff said Monday the motive may have been the theft of items that Aylor could trade for drugs.

Officers said he broke into his mother's house through a dog door. The two began arguing, and then he stabbed his mother at least 10 times before fleeing, according to investigators.

Aylor is accused of premeditated murder.
