Former Michigan employee Connor Stalions gets coaching job at Detroit High School

(CBS-DETROIT) – Connor Stalions, the former low-level recruiter at the University of Michigan who is allegedly behind the Sign theft scandalhas landed a new job as an assistant coach at Mumford High School in Detroit.

Mumford director Damon Pitt confirmed the hiring to CBS News Detroit.

Stalions joins the staff of head coach William McMichael. McMichael, who most recently served as an assistant coach at Belleville, was hired by Mumford this spring.

“Connor was a person that he (McMichael) believed was going to be a key building block and that would really evolve our football program overall,” Pitt said. “The football aspect of it is something we wanted to prioritize. So he came on board and has been doing a great, great job ever since.”

Pitt confirmed that Stalions has been in Mumford's program since early summer.

“I watched him and he was relentless, whether it was 10 kids, whether it was 11 kids, whether it was 25 or 30, he was consistent,” Pitt said. “That's what I look for in every coach I develop. He was great at that.”

The Detroit Public Schools Community District said in a statement that Stalions was serving as a volunteer.

“Assistant coaches are selected and hired by the head coaches and their school principals as contract workers or volunteers and not as full-time employees of the district,” a district spokesperson said.

Stallions was head coach Jim Harbaugh's Employee until his resignation in November. He was accused of buying tickets and sending people to games with future opponents so they could digitally record team signals. Personal scouting is against NCAA rules.

Following the incident, Stalions was placed on leave and later resigned.

The former Michigan employee is said to Share his side of the alleged sign-stealing scandal in the fourth season of “Untold” on August 27th on Netflix.

Harbaugh has denied knowing anything about the plot. Harbaugh left Ann Arbor School and joined the Los Angeles Chargers shortly after leading the Wolverines to the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Mumford opens its 2024 season on August 29 at home against Redford Thurston.
