Yankees star makes surprisingly emphatic statement on return from injury

The New York Yankees will have to do without their star Jazz Chisholm for at least ten days, but the infielder does not expect it to be longer than that.

After being placed on the 10-day injured list due to a sprained left elbow that also included a tear to his UCL. The injury occurred when Chisholm was hit while sliding into home plate in Monday night's game against the Chicago White Sox.

Although Chisholm is expected to be out for some time, the 26-year-old has avoided surgery for now and will rest and rehab. The Yankees reportedly hope to have Chisholm back sometime in September.

Chisholm's own statements about his potential return, however, are entirely different. He told reporters on Friday that he was “100 percent” confident he would be able to return to the team after the 10 days, according to Newsday's Erik Boland.

Chisholm also said he has not felt any pain in his elbow since the injury on Monday.

It would be a major breakthrough for the Yankees if Chisholm could return immediately after his time on the injured list expires.

The Yankees definitely want to make sure that the elbow is not further damaged if Chisholm returns so quickly, so they must make this important decision carefully.

Chisholm has meant a lot to the Yankees since making the big signing before the July 30 deadline. Both on the field and in the locker room, Chisholm has enjoyed playing in the Bronx.

And he's doing it well, too. In the 14 games since being acquired at the trade deadline, Chisholm has posted a .316/.361/.702 batting average with an OPS+ of 189, seven home runs, 11 RBIs and five stolen bases in 61 at-bats.

Now that the home stretch of the season is upon us, the Yankees need all the help they can get to clinch first place in the American League.

Their chances of doing so are much better if Chisholm actually returns after his time on the injured list ends.
