Crime spree captured on video near Fort Lauderdale Beach puts businesses in trouble

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida. – Businesses are on alert after employees reported a series of crimes on Fort Lauderdale's busy beach that were caught on video on Monday.

Surveillance video first shows a man entering the Wine Garden near the corner of Terramar Street and Breaker Avenue shortly after midnight.

The perpetrator then apparently put on black gloves and began pulling out surveillance cameras. Employees said he then targeted a real estate company attached to the restaurant.

“He takes computers, he takes cameras,” said Alfredo Aldana, who works in the area.

Employees of the Fort Lauderdale Beach Group, which is adjacent to the restaurant, said the perpetrator entered the restaurant through a bathroom window.

A surveillance video from the store shows him dismantling additional surveillance cameras and then taking two monitors and a computer from the store.

“He went to the place where we have our router to disconnect the Wi-Fi,” said employee Johana Nieto.

After ransacking the store and even changing clothes, according to employees, the man is observed stealing a golf cart in the area and almost immediately wrecking it.

Employees in the area said they had seen this man before and needed help stopping him. Several employees in the area reported the man had attempted to steal in the past.

“I always see him around the neighborhood,” Aldana said. “It was about the third time I saw him, and when I saw him on the video, I thought, 'Oh, my God.'”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
