Steelers vs. Bills NFL Preseason Injury Report: Clickable Editorial Here

The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for their second preseason game of 2024. After losing to the Houston Texans in the first preseason game, Mike Tomlin's team will host the Buffalo Bills at Acrisure Stadium.

This Week 2 preseason game comes two days after Pittsburgh's joint practice with the Bills. Tomlin told the media that quarterback Russell Wilson will start in this game as the Steelers look to play their dress-up game before the start of the season.

Unfortunately, Pittsburgh is expected to be somewhat undermanned in this contest. Injuries to two rookies could sideline them in what will arguably be the team's most meaningful preseason game of 2024. The Bills have their share of injuries, too.

Note that NFL teams are not required to provide official injury reports until Week 1 of the regular season. Based on the injury status reported to the media, here's a look at who could be missing from the Steelers vs. Bills preseason game.

Steelers injury report

Troy Fautanu, the Steelers' first-round pick, suffered a knee injury in Pittsburgh's loss to the Houston Texans last week. Although his status is questionable, Fautanu has not practiced this week and is not expected to play in this game.

He will be joined on the sidelines by fellow rookie Roman Wilson. The wide receiver and 2024 third-round pick suffered an ankle injury during the team's first practice with protective gear and is expected to miss its second preseason game.

Nate Herbig, meanwhile, is coming off an unspecified injury and Keeanu Benton injured his eye in the season opener. The status of both players is uncertain. Cole Holcomb remains out as he tries to recover from a serious knee injury, while cornerback Grayson Arnold — who had been competing for the starting cornerback spot — was placed on the injured list, effectively ending his season.

Bills injury report

Just a few days before their warm-up game against the Steelers, the Bills squad suffered a major blow: star linebacker Matt Milano will be out indefinitely after suffering a torn biceps.

In addition to a number of questionable players who could compete in this contest, Buffalo landed two players on the injured list this week: wide receiver Bryan Thompson and quarterback Shayne Buechele.

Despite notable absences on both sides, there are still plenty of players and matchups to keep an eye on in this contest. Steelers rookie linebacker Payton Wilson shined in his first preseason game and will look to build on his performance. Likewise, second-year cornerback Cory Trice Jr. performed well in his preseason debut last week and could see some action in the starting defense.

All eyes will be on quarterback Russell Wilson as he takes the field for his first game in a Steelers uniform. Wilson will look to instill the confidence the coaching staff needs to make him the starter at the start of the 2024 season. Meanwhile, Justin Fields will come off the bench and look to build on his inconsistent performance against the Texans.

When the Bills take the field, fans will be excited to see how Pittsburgh's defense fares against quarterback Josh Allen. The star quarterback will help test some untested Steelers defenders.
