Police officer rescues woman from submerged car

Video: Police officer rescues woman from submerged car

Heartbreaking body camera footage released by a Texas police department shows the moment an officer rushed into a pond to help a woman who was in a partially submerged vehicle. The above video contains footage that some viewers may find disturbing. “She's having a seizure, she's stuck. She's in the water,” a distraught child says of his mother as he runs to Officer Charles Cobb of the West Orange Police Department. Cobb immediately springs into action, telling the child to “jump” into his police vehicle so they can get to the pond. As he enters the water, Cobb says, “Is she in there? Is anyone in there?” to one of the two people who had tried to help the woman. The officer used a window-breaking tool to get the woman out of the car before carrying her to shore and performing CPR. Police said the woman began breathing on her own and was taken to a hospital by EMS. Police say she is expected to recover. “This is one of those situations we see a lot – you just come across something and you have to respond immediately,” Cobb said in an interview with CNN. West Orange police awarded Cobb a Life-Saving Award for his efforts to save the woman's life. Cobb was also honored by the city of West Orange, which also honored the two citizens who helped with the rescue effort.
