Penn Badgley relies on the “low-key” TikTok trend while filming season 5 of “You”

Penn Badgley seems very reserved and very careful.

The gossip Girl Alum embraced viral TikTok trend on his last day of filming You Season 5 in New York. In an Instagram collaboration post with Netflix, 37-year-old Badgley poked fun at the trend and documented his last day on set.

“See how I get to work?” he begins the video, speaking directly into the camera and carrying a lot of stuff with him. “Very reserved, very attentive.”

“I don't really do much when I'm at work,” he continued. “I'm very… mindful.” The video then quickly switches to him punching a glass wall, screaming.

Badgley then mentions that he portrayed “a romantic icon for five seasons” and described himself as “humble” and “observant.” (As fans know, his character Joe Goldberg is a serial killer, so that description isn't entirely accurate.)

Then he mentions his gray tank top and says, “See my shirt? It shows the shoulders, not the boulders.”

The clip is reminiscent of TikTok creator Jools Lebron's August video in which she talks about how she presents herself “low key” at work. Low key is defined as reserved and modest, and the term has taken over the internet.

“See how I come to work? Very demure, I put on makeup, I put my wig down, I braid a little braid,” she said in the video. “I straighten my hair, I do chichis-outs, I do viral vanilla, very demure, very mindful. Let's not forget to be demure divas.”

Since the video went viral on TikTok, Lebron has been reminding his followers to be “mindful” and “considerate” in many facets of life, such as how they behave on airplanes, ordering food, and going to the nail salon. Now everyone, including Badgley, seems to embrace the terminology and use it at every opportunity.

Netflix confirmed in a press release in March that production had begun on the fifth and final season, which promises “even more exciting twists.”

“Will Joe Goldberg finally see his Judgement Day? Fans of the popular thriller will soon learn more about Joe's fate when YOU returns for a fifth and final season,” the streamer gave a preview in a press release.

Since then, Badgley has been photographed several times on set during filming of the thriller series in New York City.
