Wayne State University ends teaching assignment for Detroit judge Kenneth King

The fallout continued after Detroit Judge Kenneth King handcuffed a teenager for falling asleep in his courtroom.

Wayne State University told NBC News that King had been relieved of his teaching position there.

The move came after King reprimanded 15-year-old Eva Goodman after she fell asleep in his courtroom during an outing organized by a Detroit nonprofit organization on Tuesday (August 13).

Goodman's mother says her daughter was put in prison garb and handcuffed.

The presiding judge of the 36th District Court said King was removed from his criminal record because he had to undergo necessary training.

“In light of the temporary suspension of Judge Kenneth King by the 36th District Court, Wayne State University has assigned two courses for fall 2024 to other instructors. As a contracted part-time instructor, Judge King has never had an ongoing teaching obligation. Since 2022, he has taught a total of five course sections at Wayne State's Law School and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.”
