Kansas City International Airport was busy with travelers Friday afternoon as the first week of school began for many residents of the Kansas City, Missouri area.

According to the latest consumer price index released this week, airline ticket prices have fallen 7% compared to June.

“I noticed there was less,” said Stephanie Musick, who was with KCI on Friday.

“I've already booked another one for September,” she said. “It was just as cheap.”

The number of travelers has reached a record high.

In July, the TSA screened more than 3 million passengers in one day, setting a record for the organization.

Since there are still seats available towards the end of summer, airlines are reducing their capacities.

Some travelers are waiting for even bigger offers, like traveling jazz artist Julian Vaughn.

“It hasn't gone down far enough for me,” he said, “since I fly almost every week.”

Travel experts expect prices to continue to fall after Labor Day, but then rise sharply during the holiday season.
