Arrest after shooting on Forest Avenue, no injuries

Authorities said there was no evidence of an ongoing threat.

DES MOINES, Iowa – Des Moines police announced they have made an arrest following a shooting incident Friday evening in the 500 block of Forest Avenue in which no injuries were reported.

On Friday evening around 5:45 p.m., DMPD officers responded to Forest Avenue after an initial report of a drive-by shooting.

After an on-site investigation, authorities believe the incident was in fact an argument in which 50-year-old Lashawnda Broadus allegedly fired a handgun while standing outside a vehicle before fleeing the scene in said vehicle.

Thanks to the vehicle description given during the 911 call, police were able to stop the vehicle one mile from the accident scene and arrest Broadus without any problems.

A pistol was also seized at the scene of her arrest, the DMPD said.

The two victims, an adult man and an adult woman, were not injured.

According to DMPD, there is no evidence of an ongoing danger in the neighborhood.
