The Harris campaign application asks for the following pronouns: “fae/faer”, “hir/hir”, “hu/hu”

CV NEWS FEED // An online application for the role of “Battleground Political Associate” in the Harris-Walz campaign came under scrutiny this week because it required applicants to choose from a range of “neopronouns” such as “faer/faer” and “hu/hu.”

The pronoun field is third from the top, below the resume and candidate name fields.

Applicants have the opportunity to choose one of nine pronoun pairs: “He/him”, “She/her”, “They/them”, “Xe/xem”, “Ze/hir”, “Ey/em”, “Hir/hir”, “Fae/faer” and “hu/hu”.

Applicants can select several or all nine of these options.

Only the first three pairs of pronouns are English words. “They” and “them” are almost universally understood by most English speakers as plural pronouns.

The application also offers job seekers the option to enter their own “custom pronouns” or “use just the name.”

“Xe,” “hir,” “fae,” and “hu” are examples of what many LGBTQ activists call “neopronouns.”

The left-leaning pro-LGBTQ group Human Rights Campaign (HRC) explains on its website: “Because a person’s pronouns are ultimately a reflection of their personal identity, there is no limit to the number and type of (neo)pronouns a person can use.”

“Fae” and “faer” come from mythology, particularly of fairies (also called “Fae” or “Fae Folk”), according to websites that support the use of these pronouns.

The pro-LGBTQ site Pronoun Wiki points out that a Tumblr blogger coined the pronoun “fae” just over a decade ago.

“I'm described this way by people who don't know me – as a fairy, as a cat, and as a not-quite-human being,” the blogger wrote at the time. “My choice of fairy as a pronoun reflects this.”

The Daily Wire'Spencer Lindquist wrote that the pronoun “fae” is also used by some followers of Wicca, a modern pagan movement.

Harris' campaign also asks applicants for the Battleground Political Associate position: “How would you contribute to building a diverse culture?”

The full-time on-site position is based in Wilmington, Delaware, the city where Harris' campaign headquarters are located. President Joe Biden's now-suspended re-election campaign was also based in Wilmington, where Biden has a residence.

Harris is known as a long-time advocate of the use of “preferred pronouns.”

In 2019, during her failed attempt to secure the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, then-Senator Harris stated during a town hall meeting on CNN that her pronouns are “she, her and hers.”

“Mine too,” joked moderator Chris Cuomo.

Online applications for the campaign of Harris' Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump, do not include fields for applicants to list their pronouns.
