Bonner's 29 points lead Sun to victory

DeWanna Bonner scored a season-high 29 points, four assists, two steals and a block as the Connecticut Sun dominated the Dallas Wings 109-91 in their first game since the Olympic break on Friday night in Arlington, Texas.

Bonner made four three-pointers, surpassing Indiana legend Tamika Catchings on the WNBA's all-time three-pointer list. Bonner (608) is now eighth on the league's all-time three-pointer list (608).

Marina Mabrey made her debut for the Sun in today's win, posting 17 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Connecticut brought her in from Chicago during the Olympic break for extra long-range shooting.

Alyssa Thomas, who won a gold medal with Team USA in Paris on Sunday, was just two rebounds away from a triple-double with 12 points, seven rebounds and 14 assists, a season-high. She also had two steals on the night.

Ty Harris scored 14 points, including 3/4 from beyond the three-point line, Brionna Jones added 12 points and Olivia Nelson-Ododa collected 10 points in 13 minutes as a substitute for Connecticut (19-6).

Dallas started the game with an 8-0 run and forced the Sun into an early timeout with 8:07 left in the first quarter. The Sun finished the quarter with a 27-12 run and went into the second quarter with a seven-point lead (27-12).

Mabrey had 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal to lead Connecticut through the first 10 minutes of play. The Sun went into the locker room with their largest lead of the half, 50-38, and outscored the Wings 23-18 in the second quarter. Thomas dished out nine assists in the first half, matching her season high for assists in a single half.

A strong third quarter extended the Sun's lead to 21 points (82-61) as the Sun defeated the Wings 32-23 in the ten minutes after leaving the locker room.

Bonner led Connecticut with 13 points, two assists, a steal and a block in the third quarter.

The Sun shot a season-high 57.6% (38 of 66) from the field and held the Wings to 43.9% (29 of 66) from the field. Connecticut made a season-high 11 three-pointers and sank 55% (11 of 20) from beyond the three-point line.

  • Thomas matched her season high with 14 assists. It was her fifth game this season with 10 or more assists and her 19th Points-Assists-Double-Double of her career.
  • It was the third time this season that all five Sun starters scored in double figures. The Sun are 2-1 when all five starters have 10+ points.
  • Connecticut allowed 15 offensive rebounds from Dallas, the most the team has allowed this season.
  • The Sun reached the 100-point mark for the first time since the 2022 season (June 15, 2022 vs. Atlanta – 102).
  • The Sun's 50 points in the first half marked the second time this season the team has scored 50 or more points in a half (55 vs. IND- 6/10). It was also the second time this season the Sun have made six three-pointers in a single half (also vs. Indiana on June 10).
  • With this win, the Sun can win the three-game season series against Dallas for the first time since 2021.
