Phoenix PD launches website detailing incidents from damning DOJ report

PHOENIX – Phoenix police have launched a website in response to the Justice Department’s 126-page report on the police department.

After a three-year investigation, the Justice Department released its scathing assessment of the Phoenix Police Department in June. Assistant U.S. Attorney General Kristen Clarke said the findings were “historic” and “serious” and proved that the department had a pattern and practice of unconstitutional policing and was incapable of doing its own policing.

The website contains information on many of the incidents involving the department that were mentioned in the DOJ report. It includes the outcome of the administrative review of each incident, bodycam video (where available), and other details. It also includes information on the so-called “path to reform” and what the department is doing to reduce the number of use-of-force incidents in the future.

Phoenix says they were able to identify 120 of the approximately 132 incidents in the Justice Department's report. Of those, 48 were within policy, 17 were not, and 47 incidents were not investigated internally at all. They were unable to identify 12 of those.

The Phoenix Police Department’s full website and response can be found here.
