When speaking with The Associated Press Speaking about the project, she explained how leaving a major label gave her control over her production, which led to her first three successful independent albums: Songs for you2021 333and last year’s BB/Ang3l“Becoming independent and being able to focus on what I want to do creatively. And I've really refined that process over the last three albums,” said the LA native. “This second part of the trilogy is really focused on getting to know myself a little better.”

“I think I just have a much stronger vision now of what I want to do and am able to set that direction,” she added.

Her days of producing carefully crafted pop hits are behind her, and Tinashe has grown into a bigger artist than ever before. Quantum Baby is a testament to this internal self-discovery projected outward, allowing listeners to study her quantum physics on a granular level. Now she can just have fun.

“What I am looking for most at this point in my life are great experiences and peace of mind,” she told AP“I’ve reached a point where I don’t want to force or create anything anymore.”

“It's extremely important for a musician to be comfortable with themselves and their art, to feel good about what they're doing, because the music industry is so fickle… I started to feel this freedom and contentment when I didn't have any expectations of myself,” she continued. “That's really what success is right now, it's just about doing things I love and focusing on creating great, timeless art.”
