York Street cordoned off while police investigate ‘serious incident’

A street in York is cordoned off this morning while police investigate a “serious incident”.

The entrance to Bellfarm Avenue is cordoned off with blue tape and police are only allowing residents through.

Unconfirmed rumors on social media speak of a possible stabbing.

One person posting on X at 7:30am today wrote: “Woke up by police helicopters. Byland Avenue, York, cordoned off this morning. Stabbing.”

However, it was not Byland Avenue that was closed, but Bell Farm Avenue.

The police officer present on site was unable to provide further information today.

But in a statement released through media channels in the last half hour, North Yorkshire Police said: “We are currently dealing with a serious incident in the Roche Avenue and Bellfarm Avenue area of ​​York.”

“Specialized investigators and police officers are conducting thorough investigations at the crime scene and their work is expected to continue throughout the weekend.”

“We understand this may cause concern in the community and want to thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work diligently to establish the facts.

“The area has been cordoned off and we ask the public to avoid the area so that our officers can carry out their work without disruption.
