“Major” gas leak near Salinas to be repaired by Friday evening

North Monterey County firefighters are currently working with Pacific Gas and Electric on a gas leak between Castroville and North Salinas that was reported Thursday. A large gas leak was reported on Espinosa between Highway 183 and Rodgers. The road has been closed until further notice. The county is asking anyone within a half-mile of 50 Espinosa Road to seal and close all doors and windows. The County of Monterey reports that a curfew is also in place in the area of ​​Espinosa Road between Highway 183 and 192 Espinosa Road. The curfew is in effect until further notice.

The leak was first reported at around 12:52 p.m.

Work continued through the night and firefighters were told PG&E was “expected to have the gas leak under control before 6:00 p.m.”
