Two dead in multi-vehicle crash that closes I-40 East, KPD says

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – On Saturday morning, Knoxville Police and the Tennessee Department of Transportation responded to a multi-vehicle crash on I-40 East.

In the latest update from KPD, it was confirmed that two people were killed in the crash, which involved three vehicles. According to KPD, charges are pending against one of the drivers involved and I-40 East remains closed while officers work the scene.

According to TDOT, I-40 East is closed at mile marker 401 in Knox County and traffic is being detoured.

KPD reported on X that the “serious” multi-vehicle crash occurred just west of Midway Road and urged drivers to seek alternate routes if possible.
