Updated: Police investigating serious incident on York Street

Following a serious incident, police have closed streets in York.

It is located in the Bell Farm district. Roche Avenue and Bellfarm Avenue are cordoned off.

There are unconfirmed reports of a stabbing in the area.

One resident posted on X: “Woke up by police helicopters. Byland Ave., York, cordoned off this morning. Stabbing.”

Bell Farm residents reported seeing armed officers on Roche Avenue at 6:30 a.m. The police helicopter was also on the scene.

Neighbors told Subscribe They assume that one man died in the incident. Another person is said to be in hospital with facial injuries.

One said it happened after 3 a.m. and was related to a fight at a party at a house on Roche Avenue.

Forensic officers cordoned off Roche Avenue today.

Both ends of Bellfarm Avenue are cordoned off by police. Residents are allowed to enter and exit via Huntington Road.

Several police cars and police officers can be seen on the street.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Specialist investigators and officers are conducting thorough enquiries at the scene and their work is expected to continue throughout the weekend.”

“We understand this may cause concern in the community and want to thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work diligently to establish the facts.

“The area has been cordoned off and we ask the public to avoid the area so that our officers can carry out their work undisturbed.”

Police say they will release more information as soon as they can.
