Minnesota Twins provide a series of injury updates for key stars as the home stretch approaches

The Minnesota Twins begin the season with a record of 69-53, which is currently good enough for second place in the American League wild card rankings.

After advancing to the ALDS last season, Minnesota wants to go even further this year and seems to have the horses to do it.

However, several of those horses are currently out with injuries and the organization has provided some updates on Carlos Correa, Joe Ryan, Byron Buxton and reliever Justin Topa.

First, about Correa, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune:

Carlos Correa ran at full speed on his right foot for the first time in a week on Thursday, hitting and catching ground balls. It's a positive step in his recovery from plantar fasciitis, said Twins head coach Nick Paparesta, but “we need to get him to a point where he can run comfortably every day and not be sore the next day.”

And then to Ryan from the same publication:

Dr. Neal El Attrache, one of the most renowned sports surgeons, agreed with the Twins' diagnosis of Joe Ryan's injury: a grade II strain of the teres major muscle in his shoulder, an injury that will sideline the right-hander for several weeks and possibly the rest of the season.

Buxton recently received a cortisone shot and Topa suffered a setback with his bad elbow. After being acquired in an offseason trade with the Seattle Mariners, he has not been on the mound this season.

The Twins are back in action Saturday night when they face the Texas Rangers at 7:05 p.m. ET.
