'America's Got Talent' comedian Perry Kurtz killed in hit-and-run

Former “America's Got Talent” comedian Perry Kurtz was struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident Thursday, police said. Kurtz was 73 years old.

An 18-year-old suspect was arrested Friday after the driver was involved in a hit-and-run crash on Aug. 15 at around 11:20 p.m., Los Angeles police said in a news release. The suspect was identified as Nathon Jaimes, a Reseda resident.

“A gray Honda Civic was traveling eastbound on Ventura Boulevard when it struck and killed a pedestrian crossing Ventura Boulevard east of Corbin Avenue,” the press release said.

“The pedestrian was thrown east before colliding with the roadway. The Honda continued east without stopping, identifying itself or rendering aid, as required by law.”

When emergency responders arrived, Kurtz was pronounced dead at the scene. Police found the fleeing driver at his residence and noted that the suspect's vehicle was “found abandoned not far from the scene of the accident.”

Kurtz's agent issued a statement to Fox News Digital regarding his death.

“Golden Artists Entertainment and I are personally devastated by this news,” said Kurtz's spokesman Dante Rusciolelli.

“Perry was not just a customer, he has been my friend since 1987. He was an important figure in the Los Angeles comedy scene for decades and will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with his family.”

Kurtz auditioned for Season 8 of “America's Got Talent.” He failed to advance to the next round after rapping about judges Heidi Klum, Howard Stern and Mel B. The comedian has also made appearances on “The Late Show with James Corden” and “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”

The comedian performed a show in Los Angeles earlier this week. A video of it was shared on his Facebook account on Thursday, hours before his death. Fans paid tribute to Kurtz in the comments section following his tragic death.
